Leaky Faucets – Common Plumbing Problems in San Diego

Leaky faucets San Diego, CA

Leaky faucets are one of the most common plumbing problems that a homeowner will encounter. This can be very bothersome and disruptive. Knowing the most common plumbing problems in San Diego that homeowners are likely to face and knowing what to do when they arise, can be the difference between a small problem and a disaster.

Leaky Faucets

Leaky faucets are one of the most common plumbing problems that we see.  nearly every homeowner will experience a leaky faucet at one time or another. These slow drips lead to higher water bills, wasted water, and the potential for water damage.  It is important to know which type of faucet you have that is leaking. There are four kinds of faucets: cartridge, compression, ceramic disk, and ball type. A compression faucet relies on rubber washers to seal the valve seat, which can wear out and need to be replaced. With the other three types of faucets, either the O-ring or neoprene seal that’s causing the leak needs to be replaced.

If an old faucet is giving you issues, it’s usually a good idea to go ahead and replace it altogether with an updated cartridge model. If you can’t determine the cause of the leak or are unable to solve it with a quick fix, it’s best to call a plumber who has the tools and knowledge to effectively identify and resolve the problem of Leaky Faucets.

The best way to quickly solve this Leaky Faucets problem is to reach under the sink (the most common location) and turn off the water shut-off valve. If your house is not equipped with shutoffs for individual fixtures, or if after turning off the first shut-off valve  you still have a leak, then you’ll have to go to the main shutoff and turn off the entire water supply to your home. Now listen carefully, do you still hear water continuing to run? If you do, you may have a much bigger problem. Call your local San Diego plumber at 858-536-4161.
